Music Release
UMOYA is a powerful album by Sangoma Nene, released on January 31. This collection features deeply personal and culturally resonant tracks that reflect the journey of those called to the spiritual path. The title track, “Umoya,” is an original composition by Sangoma Nene, depicting the hard road travelled by the spiritually chosen.
Another standout, “Umthakathi,” is an adaptation of Mavava’s Maskandi song “Sola Sola.” This piece addresses the stigmatization faced by iSangoma, often presumed to be a sorcerer despite her innocence, and features a moving flute performance by renowned horn player Steve Dyer.
The album also includes “Uthuleleni,” Sangoma Nene’s first composition, which was originally featured on her 2000 release and won Best Producer at the African Music Awards in Toronto.
“UMOYA” is a testament to resilience, cultural pride, and the healing power of music, offering listeners a journey through the challenges and triumphs of spiritual calling.
